What is Explore Hacks and why should I join?

Explore Hacks is a 3-day hackathon that aims to grant both experienced and beginner student programmers the chance to explore the process of ideation to product execution. Participants will gain the opportunity to learn through a variety of workshops and mini-events, allowing them to traverse the different fields of Computer Science. Best of all, Explore Hacks is 100% free!

What will I need to do?

Address the Prompt: Create a project that solves a current issue in the world and has a lasting impact on a market of your choice in the future.

You will need to create a project and submit a 5-minute video that demos your project and pitches the impact its integration within the market of your choice. Upon submission, you must add a URL to your publicly visible code/repository. All submissions will be made through Devpost.

Your project will be judged based on the following criteria, with the grading rubric attached here.

You may participate in a team with your friends (1 - 4 people per team).

FAQs
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is best described as an “invention marathon”. Anyone who has an interest in technology attends a hackathon to learn, build & share their creations over the course of a weekend in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. You don’t have to be a programmer and you certainly don’t have to be majoring in Computer Science. - MLH
What do I need to submit?
You will need to submit a 5 minute video that pitches the impact of your project's integration within the market of your choice, along with a demo.
How are projects judged?
Projects are judged based on 4 criteria: Feasibility, Uniqueness, Implementation, and Structure.
Am I eligible to participate?
Anyone who is a high school student is eligible to participate. The only prerequisite for Explore Hacks is a longing to learn! You do not need to know how to code to join!
Do I need a team to participate?
You may have teams of up to 4 people. You do not need to sign up with a team.
Do I need to pay to register?
Nope! Explore Hacks is completely free.
When and where is the hackathon?
The hackathon takes place from July 23, 2021 - July 25, 2021. The hackathon will be hosted completely online!
What if I want to use hardware for my project?
You can. But we won’t be able to provide you with any parts.
